Frequently Asked Questions

  • How should I prepare for moving into storage?
If you are packing yourself, here are some tips to be organised and ready for collection. Make sure your boxes are well taped and sealed both on top and underneath. Also please labe yourl boxes. The side is often a good place for labels so you can see them when boxes are stacked on top of each other. Use common sense when packing. Smaller boxes are good for fragile or heavier items. Larger boxes are good for large fragile items but not heavy items like books. If you overload boxes, regardless of how good they are they will either come apart due to excess weight or be too heavy to lift safely. Try and ensure there is reasonable access to your property. Move cars if they are in the way on a driveway and clear anything else that could be in the way of the removal team loading your items. This includes pets. Make sure you have made an inventory list of what is going into storage. Dinostore will have given you a form to fill out so please ensure this is ready for us when your items come into store.
  • How can I pay for my storage?
The storage will need to be paid for in advance. We require a deposit and a month's storage rental in advance. We take card, bank transfer and cash.
  • Can I access my goods whilst in storage?
No problem at all. We pride ourselves on having the most accessible storage rooms anywhere locally. Your access will be outlined in your agreement with us. Generally, it’s best to give us 24 hours notice, especially for storage pods. We can then make sure everything is ready and accessible to you. We do not charge our customers for access.
  • Storage pods - how do I pack them?
Storage pods may be moved around the warehouse with a forklift truck. Pods are kept upright and experience very little movement. It is important, however, that items are packed securely and have plenty of protection. If we are packing your pod, we will use blankets or old cardboard, but it is important if you are packing your own pod that you do the same and the pod is packed securely. If you don’t have a full load, spread it across the floor of the storage pod. This will ensure items do not fall over and the load is stable. For any more information regarding the packing of these pods, please let us know. Self storage rooms do not move. It’s never advised to stack up items precariously, but once everything is in, nothing will move around or be at risk of falling over.
  • Should I seal the boxes?
Please tape the bottom of the boxes. With little or no tape underneath they are hard to lift and the contents can be easily damaged. Please close and seal all your boxes; boxes left open with items protruding are awkward and can be dangerous. If an item will not fit in a box please do not try to squeeze it in; bubble wrap the item separately or use a bigger box.
  • How much should I pack in a box?
If possible, try to use suitcases, rucksacks and other items of luggage to pack clothes or similar items as these are preferable to using black plastic bags. If you do have to use black plastic bags, use top quality bags or even garden refuse bags as these are very thick and won't tear when lifted. We sell some great quality black bags in our packing shop.
  • How should I pack my television set?
Old type 'boxy' tellies are fine as they come. Please ensure cables are wrapped up and out the way to make lifting easier. New flat screen TVs should be protected. The original box is best. Alternatively, use a cardboard sleeve to protect the screen. Failing that, we have countless blankets and straps and can do our best to help. If the customer has done the packing, it is their responsibility to make sure the TV is suitably protected otherwise we cannot claim on our insurance should there be a problem.
  • How should I prepare fridges and freezers for the move?
Try not to buy any fridge or freezer food for at least two weeks before you are due to move, so nothing goes to waste. Remember to defrost and drain at least 48 hours before the move as appliances must be dry. Any defrosting that is still happening in a storage room will cause damage to your items and will not be covered by insurance.
  • What about flat pack furniture?
We offer a service whereby we can disassemble and reassemble flat pack furniture. Please tell us if you require this service before removal commences. Otherwise, dismantle self-assembly furniture in advance and tape smaller pieces together to stop them sliding around and separating during transit. Remember to put all nuts and bolts in a jiffy bag and tape the bag to the relevant item or keep them somewhere safe.
  • How should I pack pictures and lamps?
Pictures should be wrapped in bubble wrap or a cardboard sleeve to protect them in transit and storage. Remember to label the picture so you know what it is without having to unwrap it. Lamps should have the shades and bulbs removed. If lamps are breakable, put protection around them. For example, if the lamp base is fragile or made of china it should be wrapped in bubble wrap or secured in a box.
  • Are my contents fully insured?
Your goods must be insured whilst in storage. You will either need to take out one of our policies (please ask for details) or provide proof that your goods are covered whilst in store by a separate policy.
  • What happens if something is broken?
Nothing will be broken once in storage as you are the only person who has access to your room (please see information regarding storage pods above). If you have used us for your removal then we will address and, where appropriate, rectify any issues. However, if you have moved items in yourself, fixing any damage will be your responsibility. Or, if you have used an external removal company, you will need to process a claim directly with them.
